The Cleveland Browns have given former Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Devin Culp another opportunity to continue his NFL career. According to the league’s transaction wire, Cleveland signed Culp to its practice squad ahead of its Week 6 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.

Tampa Bay waived Culp before his third NFL season, and he subsequently cleared waivers. The tight end remained without a team until the Browns came calling, leaving him another opportunity to work toward an active roster spot.

Culp Struggled to Make an Impact in Tampa Bay

The Buccaneers selected Culp with the 246th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Sticking with the team for his first three professional seasons would have represented a measure of stability for a late-round selection.

However, Culp struggled to establish himself as a consistent contributor in Tampa Bay’s offense. He recorded five receptions for 88 yards as a rookie in 2024, but his production declined significantly the following season.

Culp finished the 2025 campaign with just one reception for six yards. His offensive workload increased from 41 snaps as a rookie to 56 during his second NFL season, but the additional opportunities produced little statistical improvement.

Buccaneers Move On as Tight End Competition Grows

Culp also contributed on special teams during his first two seasons. He played 50 special teams snaps in 2024 before logging 110 in 2025, giving him a larger role outside the offense.

However, Tampa Bay’s tight end room grew more crowded, making Culp’s roster spot increasingly difficult to justify. With limited offensive production, the former seventh-round pick faced a tougher path toward earning consistent opportunities.

The Browns’ decision to sign Culp gives him a fresh start, although he must still earn his way onto the active roster. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay can point to the lengthy wait for his next opportunity as a sign that moving on was a reasonable decision.
