Former Bucs QB Kyle Trask is joining one of Tampa Bay's primary nemeses on Wednesday

Kyle Trask signing with Falcons' practice squad after Michael Penix, Jr. was placed on injured reserve

Penix, Jr. will have surgery to repair a partially torn ACL that has been a nagging issue for him this season. The Falcons will turn to the Bucs' unofficially boogeyman, Kirk Cousins, as their starter for the rest of the season, while Easton Stick was promoted from the practice squad as the team's primary backup.

Trask was drafted in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft with the 64th overall pick. However, he never was able to live up to his second-round draft status with the team, losing out to Baker Mayfield after the former was signed in the 2023 offseason following Tom Brady's retirement. And in 2025, he lost out on the backup quarterback battle in the preseason to Teddy Bridgewater despite the latter coming back into the league from coaching high school football.

In seven games across three seasons with Tampa Bay, he appeared in seven games, completing just 4 of 11 passes for 28 yards.

The Buccaneers defeated the Falcons back in Week 1 23-20. The teams will face off for the second time this season on December 11 on Thursday Night Football at Raymond James Stadium.
