All of the points made by Mike Greenberg and Kreutz can be pointed directly at general manager Ryan Poles. Greenberg called out the dysfunction with the coaching staff this season. Promoting a passing game coordinator to interim head coach in a month had a very small chance of succeeding, and all it did was align quarterback Caleb Williams and coach Thomas Brown for failure.
Kreutz took it further by lamenting how Poles built this team from the outside in. He's valued positions furthest away from the ball while deprioritizing those positions in the trenches. His first draft picks of cornerback Kyler Gordon and Jaquon Brisker were nice additions, but several impact linemen were available. Likewise, drafting Velus Jones Jr. and Tyrique Stevenson were also puzzling moves, especially since John Michael Schmitz, taken one pick after Stevenson, has become a starting center (something the Bears have been rotating every season since Poles arrived) for the New York Giants.
The Bears won't be able to avoid the trenches this offseason. The question is, will Poles still be in a position to address the issues?
