Former Chiefs Coach Eric Bieniemy Lands NFL Job For 2025 Season

Just a few days ago, Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reported that Eric Bieniemy is eyeing a return to the NFL. Well, it didn't take long for him to find a new home.

Bieniemy coached for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2013-2022. He was their running backs coach before being promoted to offensive coordinator in 2018. After spending a decade in Kansas City, he agreed to become the assistant head coach for the Washington Commanders. Unfortunately for him, that stint didn't last very long. Since the Commanders revamped their staff last offseason, Bieniemy decided to coach college football. He spent the 2024 season with UCLA's staff.

Even though Bieniemy struggled at UCLA, that didn't hurt his stock around the NFL. According to Schultz, the former Chiefs offensive coordinator spoke to multiple teams, including the New England Patriots.

Once the Patriots went in a different direction for offensive coordinator, the Chicago Bears stepped up with an offer for Bieniemy.

According to CBS Sports insider Jonathan Jones, the Bears are making Bieniemy their running backs coach.

"A 2-time Super Bowl champ with the Chiefs, Bieniemy gives Ben Johnson's offensive staff a veteran, championship presence," Jones said.

Bieniemy will be tasked with helping out a Chicago backfield that ranked 25th in rushing yards this season. D'Andre Swift was the team's leading rusher with 959 yards.

If Bieniemy has success with the Bears, that could open the door for him to become an offensive play-caller again. And who knows? Maybe he could finally get a head coaching gig down the line.

For now, this should be considered a low-risk, high-reward situation for Bieniemy in Chicago.
