Former Colts QB Andrew Luck is making his long-awaited return to football in a role that seems perfect for him

It may not be in the way many wanted, but former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is making his return to football.

He's returning to his alma mater to become the general manager of Standford University's football program.

Ever since Luck announced his shocking retirement ahead of 2019, many have speculated about his return to the football field. That hope never became a reality as Luck state retired and enjoyed his life after football with his wife and daughter.

While he never caved to the itch to return to the field, Luck is returning to the football world on the college scene after a six-year hiatus from the public eye. He returns to Stanford, where he played each of his three collegiate seasons before being selected first overall by the Colts in the 2012 NFL Draft.

The role of a general manager is well-known in the NFL, but the role is still fairly new at the college level. However, with the drastic changes to how team building occurs in the NIL era of college football, it's a role that every major program should seriously consider adding. Luck spoke with the College Gameday crew, which includes his former Colts teammate Pat McAfee, about his new role, and here is what he had to say.

"I imagine this being very hands on. And yeah we have a vision. We are under no illusion of the landscape of college sports as well. I believe deeply in the unique value proposition of Stanford and Stanford Athletics. It's the greatest athletic department, the most successful athletic department in the country. We are excited for football to do its part at the home of champions. We are looking for the best and brightest, I think we got a lot of them. We are looking for tough kids, and we will be competitive in recruiting and retaining the best talent out there."
