Former Denver Broncos Running Back Still Thinks Russell Wilson Can Be An MVP
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos first season with Russell Wilson went about as bad as a season can go. The team finished with the fifth worst record in the league and the offense looked anemic throughout the season. First year head coach Nathanial Hackett was fired before the season was over. Many analysts are now wondering whether Wilson can still play at a high level. Former Broncos running back Melvin Gordon still thinks that Wilson can be an MVP.

Denver Broncos Russell Wilson MVP?

Gordon told Jim Rome in a recent interview that he still has faith in the quarterback. You can listen to his full answer when asked about Wilson here. For all of the worry surrounding the quarterback, Gordon seems very bullish. Last season did feel like the perfect storm of terrible things happening. Injuries started in training camp. Hackett looked in over his head. The offensive line was questionable at times. Now with huge upgrades all over the roster, this season could be much different.

Expectations For Denver

The AFC Conference is tough. The AFC West itself is tough. The Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers are lurking in the division. Then the Jets, Bills, Dolphins, Ravens, Bengals, and Jaguars are also vying for playoff spots. Ultimately, most Broncos fans simply want to see progress. If this season is the same as last season, there is reason to worry. If there is tangible improvement, fans will probably be more forgiving of missing the playoffs considering the strength of the conference.

The Denver Broncos need Russell Wilson to return to his MVP form. The offensive line has been upgraded and he has weapons he can throw to. New head coach Sean Payton has his work cut out for him but the pieces are there for a bounce back season.
