Former Dolphins Linebacker Announces Retirement at age 30

Anthony Walker, a linebacker who spent nine seasons in the NFL with four teams — the Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers — announced his decision to retire from the league in an Instagram post Thursday afternoon. Walker is just 30 years old and won’t turn 31 until August.

The fifth-round pick back in the 2017 NFL Draft spent much of his pro career with two teams: the Indianapolis Colts, who drafted him, along with the Cleveland Browns. For seven of his nine pro seasons, he was either a Colt or Brown, but he spent his penultimate campaign in the NFL playing for the Dolphins.

While Walker wasn’t the same player who could start every game on the calendar and rack up 100-plus tackles on the season by the time he ended up in Miami, he was still one of the Dolphins’ better tacklers in 2024. He ended up third on the team behind only linebacker Jordyn Brooks and safety Jordan Poyer in both combined tackles (68) and solo tackles (34).

Following his cup of coffee with the Dolphins, the Miami native jumped ship from his hometown team and signed a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, though they released him with a non-football injury designation before long.

With his NFL career now officially all said and done, Walker logged 581 career tackles, 26 tackles for loss, and four fumbles recovered across 101 regular-season games played (83 starts). To boot, he came up with four career interceptions (including one as a Dolphin) and defended 21 passes at the highest level.

All in all, he was a strong, starting-caliber player for a lengthy period of time, and Dolphins fans should be thankful that he was able to spend some time playing for the franchise. Hopefully, Walker enjoyed his brief time playing in front of the fans as well and will enjoy retirement.
