Former Eagles safety Brian Dawkins not surprised by Jalen Hurts' success

Make room for Brian Dawkins on the Jalen Hurts bandwagon. During a recent appearance on Good Morning Football, "Weapon X" explained why the second-year QB  has made such strides.

According to Dawkins, familiarity with the system has been the key to Hurts' success. It's hard to argue with the numbers, but this hasn't always been the case.

This season marks the first time Hurts has had the same play caller since his father coached him in high school.  When Hurts arrived at Alabama, Lane Kiffin was the offensive coordinator, but by the end of the year, Steve Sarkisian was calling plays. In three years at Alabama, Hurts played for five different offensive coordinators. As if that weren't enough, Hurts had to learn Lincoln Riley's system when he left for Oklahoma in 2019.

In 2020, Hurts played for Doug Pederson. Last year it was Nick Sirianni. This year, it's Sirianni once again. It's amazing what two years in a system (and better receivers) can do for a quarterback.

According to Statmuse, Hurts is passing for 42.7 more yards per game this year. His yards per attempt have gone up and his 66.8% completion rate puts him in the company of Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes.
In other words, familiarity breeds success. It's great to see what Hurts has been able to do so far and Eagles fans can reasonably expect even more as the season progresses.
