Former first-round pick headlines Eagles' projected practice squad

While it may not be the most exciting conversation to have, the Lions will soon face numerous difficult decisions regarding who stays on the practice squad. Teams can begin to form their 16-man practice squads next Wednesday, after the claiming period for players placed on waivers during final cuts expires.

Practice squad players are compensated between approximately $13,000 and $22,000, depending on their experience and service time.

Darius Cooper, Wide Receiver

Cooper had a strong showing in his first preseason game, but may be the odd man looking in when it comes to a roster spot. If A.J. Brown is out for a week or two to start the season, Cooper could receive an elevation to start off his NFL career.

Ife Adeyi, Wide Receiver

Adeyi's speed and special teams potential is what gives him a shot at sticking around. Look for the Eagles to look long and hard to see if Adeyi can stick, but don't be surprised if the speedster is cut after a week or so on their practice squad for a veteran returner.

Nick Muse, Tight End

The Eagles are likely to carry another tight end, as they may look within to find some internal options, with Dallas Goedert most likely departing in 2026. Look for them to keep Kylen Granson as their TE3 with Muse sticking around as an elevation option.

Jacob Sykes, Defensive Tackle

Sykes offers the Eagles a plug-and-play option with his recent experience in the UFL. Sykes had an impressive Week 1 with the Eagles and could be an emergency option if needed. It's worth noting that Clint Hurtt, his former coach with the Seahawks, is now on staff with the Eagles as well.

Andre Sam, Safety

Sam is a special teams gamer whose tenacity and prowess could garner some favor with the coaching staff. Sam has some experience in the regular season as well and could be a solid late-season gem once injuries mount.

Eli Ricks, Cornerback

Ricks may be the victim of a numbers game as well if the team opts to stay with Adoree' Jackson. Ricks could be called up if Jackson underwhelms.

Drew Kendall, Offensive Lineman

The Eagles finished the season with one offensive lineman on the practice squad, namely Laekin Vakalahi, who was a selection for the international player pathway. With Kendall being a draft pick and having some NFL legacy points, he sneaks his way onto the Philadelphia practice squad for the 2025 season.

Kenyon Green, Offensive Lineman

Green hasn't done enough to earn a spot on the 53-man roster, but he has garnered enough experience and was traded for that the Eagles may take a flier on the former first-round pick and attempt to stash him on their practice squad for the time being. It is worth noting that because of Green's shoulder injury, he may end up on injured reserve.

Montrell Johnson, Running Back

Johnson has dealt with some nagging injuries and should be the next man up if A.J. Dillon or Will Shipley were to go on injured reserve. With a high upside, look for the Eagles to keep him around to get another look at the former Florida running back.

Ben Van Summeren, Full Back/Linebacker

Van Summeren is one of the cuts that will bounce back and forth between the active roster and practice squad. He'll be able to have his roster spot manipulated until it's time to sign him to the active roster after three weeks. Van Summeren's versatility makes him an asset to all phases of the Eagles.

Antwaun Powell-Ryland, EDGE

I've been extremely high on "APR" since his draft stock but it doesn't seem like he's ready to go. Look for him to take some seasoning on the Eagles practice squad with hopefully him breaking out in 2026.

Lewis Cine, Safety

With the tag of being a former first-round pick and spending part of 2024 with the Eagles, Cine has had some decent spurts of play this preseason, but hasn't put it all together. Look for him to start on the Eagles practice squad, only to find work with an injury-riddled secondary somewhere else.

Lance Dixon, Linebacker

Dixon may be a backend linebacker on a couple of other teams, but the Toledo rookie is going to fall victim to a numbers game here. Hopefully, he clears waivers for Philadelphia to keep him around. If not, look for Dallas Gant or Ochaun Mathis to take his spot.

Terrance Marshall Jr., Wide Receiver

The John Metchie III trade tightens the wide receiver room a bit, and Marshall will probably have no shot at this point. He does earn practice squad consideration because of his NFL experience. If Marshall doesn't latch on to a practice squad look for his NFL window to start closing.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Quarterback

The Eagles traditionally keep four quarterbacks on the roster and may try to stash DTR there. Make no mistake, Kyle McCord hasn't been dominant as a QB3 option; however, he is someone who could be picked up if unprotected. Look for Philadelphia to take a look at Skylar Thompson if DTR gets picked up by another NFL team.

ShunDerrick Powell, Running Back

If the Eagles have the space, look for them to possibly stash two running backs on the practice squad. Powell hasn't been the most dynamic back, however, with the volume of rushes the Eagles are primed to accrue this season, having a fresh option for the back half of the season is never a bad idea.
