Cutdown day is never an easy time in the National Football League, and former Florida Gators and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Kyle Trask knows it all too well. As a backup quarterback, your job is never truly safe, and Trask found that out the hard way.
Monday saw the end of his time with the Buccaneers, as they will be releasing him with an injury designation, and will revert to injured reserve until a settlement is reached. He lost the job to Teddy Bridgewater.
The #Bucs plan to release quarterback Kyle Trask, per source. He will revert to IR with a shoulder issue, then work out a settlement or release soon and look for a new team.

It's a tough one for Trask, especially after he suffered an injury during the course of training camp. He will get an injury settlement, which will likely be on top of his $1.17 million in fully guaranteed salary. Trask was the recipient of the vested veteran benefit, where his base salary was more than double his cap hit. The National Football League rewards teams with this benefit to sign one player that is coming off their rookie contract to encourage more development.
It's been a tough career for Trask, who was a second round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft after a very successful final season at the University of Florida. He threw for 43 touchdowns to just eight interceptions in that final year and was a Heisman Trophy finalist.
During his NFL career, Trask only got into seven games and completed just four passes in 11 attempts. He had a chance to win the starting quarterback job ahead of the 2023 season, but was beatdout by current starter Baker Mayfield.
Trask could end up finding a new home once he is released from injured reserve, as he possesses the ability to be a solid backup quarterback. When will he be released from injured reserve? Only time will tell.
