Many Green Bay Packers fans are looking forward to the 2025 NFL season because they are anxious to see how their new rookie wide receivers, Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, will perform as Jordan Love’s new weapons on offense. Last season, the Packers had the second-worst pass drop percentage in the league, and the addition of two young rookies will add much needed depth and competition to the position.

Many fans forget, though, that after this year’s draft, the Packers were not done looking at more wide receivers. For a while, it looked like they were going to add Penn State’s Julian Fleming as an undrafted free agent before moving on after Fleming failed a physical.

Fleming spent the first four seasons of his college career at Ohio State. His best season came in 2022 when he had 34 receptions for 533 yards and six touchdowns. In 2023, though, his role on the Buckeyes offense decreased dramatically, and he had just 26 receptions for 270 yards and no touchdowns.

As a result, Fleming transferred to Penn State for his final collegiate season. Unfortunately, he suffered knee and back injuries, though he did manage to play in all 16 games the team played. However, Fleming had just 14 receptions for 176 yards and a single touchdown.

It was the knee and back injuries that he suffered while in college that caused him to fail his physical with the Packers. Despite this, Fleming had other teams interested in signing him later once he got healthy.

Unfortunately, that may not be for a while due to a tragic accident.

A report filed by the Pennsylvania State Police on Friday, May 23, stated that Fleming was the driver of an ATV that struck a deer. Neither Fleming, nor his girlfriend, Alyssa Boyd, were wearing protective gear.

Tragically, Boyd was pronounced dead at the scene. Fleming, meanwhile, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Obviously, this sounds like it was a terrible accident, one that unfortunately result in the loss of life.
