Former Iowa State Cyclone star Breece Hall may have a harder time completing his NFL comeback thanks to the New York Jets’ new approach in the backfield.
According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, the Jets will look to deploy a three-headed rushing attack on top of new elite scrambling quarterback Justin Fields.
While Hall was the lead back in New York last season, he wasn’t used in a high-volume capacity. Still, his carry share, 209, was much higher than rookie backs Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis, who split for 122 carries.
It appears in 2025, Hall will have to share the backfield role even more with those two entering their second seasons under new head coach Aaron Glenn.
Hall’s 2024 season was a disappointment after falling just four yards short of 1,000 yards in 2023. He only totaled 876 yards and fumbled six times. Despite his bruise-and-cruise running style, he never recorded more than 20 rushing attempts in a single game in any of the 16 games he started.
With Glenn pouring focus into establishing a multi-faced rushing attack, Fields will eat into the carry share as well on designed runs and broken pass plays. That leaves few opportunities for Hall to rebound in a big way in the final year of his rookie contract.
It’s no surprise Hall has been linked to many trade pitches this offseason, but it seems unlikely for New York to trade the former Cyclone with the inexperience in the backfield that would remain otherwise. Still, while Hall may not have had a true breakout at the NFL level just yet, his style of play lends itself toward him being a bell-cow back, and if he isn’t allowed to be that for the Jets, his time may soon be up in New York.

Cowboys make decision on Micah Parsons' trade request
First-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer has been trying to instill civility at practice when tempers flare, but he has no choice but to stay idle as the Dallas Cowboys front office and Micah Parsons face off at training camp. On Friday, Parsons took to social media to announce he sent executive vice president Stephen Jones a request to be traded from the Cowboys. "Unfortunately I no longer want to be here," Parsons wrote, per a post on X. "I no longer want to be held to close door negotiations without my agent present. "I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization our fans and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me." Dallas didn't appear fazed by Parsons' request. Per Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Cowboys have no plans to trade Parsons this summer, though multiple teams will plan to inquire about the three-time All-Pro pass-rusher. "The Dallas Cowboys have no intention of trading Micah Parsons, per sources," Russini posted on X. "Still, teams around the league are planning to reach out to check on his availability today." The Cowboys selected Parsons with the No. 12 pick in the 2021 draft. The four-time Pro Bowl nominee has recorded 256 tackles and 52.5 sacks during his four years in the league. The former Penn State standout has appeared and started in 63 games. Parsons missed four games last year due to an ankle injury. The Cowboys front office could have made the situation better by talking with Parsons' agent and keeping any issues with the star pass-rusher in-house. The Cowboys have another preseason distraction. This one is of their own making.

Former university of Georgia standout, and Packers undrafted rookie free agent, Nazir Stackhouse is putting together a dominant start to training camp, and even head coach Matt LaFleur is taking notice. I think at some point, we’re going to have to see him get in there versus our [No. 1 offense],” said head coach Matt LaFleur. A three year starter at the University of Georgia, Stackhouse finished his five-year collegiate career with three sacks, nine tackles for loss, and 96 total tackles but has been a dominant force this spring and summer since landing with the Packers. Green Bay has built an ascending young roster with quality star power across the depth chart, but edge rusher may be one of the Packers’ remaining weaknesses. Kevin O'Connell provides injury update on WR Justin Jefferson
The Minnesota Vikings got some tough injury news at the very beginning of training camp when wide receiver Justin Jefferson was announced by head coach Kevin O'Connell with a mild hamstring strain. On Friday afternoon during his media availability, O'Connell gave an update on Jefferson after initially announcing that he would be evaluated "next week," which happens to be right now. "He'll start doing some more things to begin the process, kind of on the grass. I don't have an update on the timeline, other than I know the reports [that come] back to me have been really positive. I think evaluation with something like this is more so the checkpoints before he's eventually just doing more and more and more. And that does start this week. Don't know if that answers your question other than I didn't have a real update other than that long time before week one, but just based on the fact that he was able to get out and do what he did the other day, is he on track to on a process that would get him in the mix for that first week? Yeah, I've been real careful, even in my dialog with him, about what's what." It's not much of a surprise that O'Connell isn't giving a timeline. The Vikings are notoriously conservative when it comes to injuries, and there is nothing for the Vikings to win right now during training camp. Ideally, it would be great for the Vikings to have Jefferson back for joint practices with the New England Patriots, mainly because it will help J.J. McCarthy develop chemistry against a full team defense. For now, the Vikings are in a wait-and-see mode.
