Former New York Jets quarterback and one-time NFL Most Valuable Player Boomer Esiason ripped current New York signal-caller Aaron Rodgers for skipping the club's two-day mandatory minicamp as an unexcused absence this week.
"He’s the one who said you have to eliminate the distractions," Esiason said about Rodgers during the Wednesday edition of the WFAN "Boomer and Gio" program, per Ryan Chichester of Audacy. "All he is is one big giant distraction, no matter what it is. Could it be some sort of memorial funeral? Could it be a golf event? A fundraising event? It could be a million different things…but you have a responsibility for a mandatory minicamp to be there."
Back in May, Rodgers publicly spoke on multiple occasions about the importance of being "all about football" and handling "things in house." He offered such comments after he was mentioned as a potential vice presidential running mate and before it was reported Tuesday evening that he will be fined by the Jets for missing mandatory minicamp.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh said on Wednesday that he and Rodgers "are on the exact same page" regarding the absences. Saleh also said that this week's story is "more of an issue for everyone outside the building than it is inside."
Meanwhile, FS1 personality Colin Cowherd and NFL analyst Chase Daniel are among media personalities who have suggested they know where Rodgers is this week.
Colin Cowherd reports Aaron Rodgers is on "vacation" overseas this week, which is why he missed Jets mandatory minicamp:

"This is sort of what you would expect. Impulsive owner, new GM, coach with a losing record, prickly, older, at times arrogant, disconnected quarterback." pic.twitter.com/8VwjqGiDql
Wait until you hear where Aaron Rodgers is…instead of with his teammates.

That’s an expensive absence.

"Most of the stuff we’ve been speaking of in regards to him has been off the field," Esiason added about Rodgers. "He’s an amazing player…whatever the event is, I’m sure it’s important to him…but it’s just another layer of crap that you have to deal with."
The same Rodgers who spoke in January about the importance of flushing "the bull— that has nothing to do with winning" out of the Jets organization hasn't stopped spreading conspiracy theories about COVID-19 vaccines and other subjects during certain interviews.
He's also given the Jets a total of just four meaningful offensive snaps, is coming off a torn Achilles and turns 41 years old this December.
Brian Costello of the New York Post said on Tuesday that "it’s time for Rodgers to deliver more for the Jets than just sideshows and brush fires to put out."
If nothing else, Rodgers should probably confirm that he isn't feeling "90 percent retired" for at least the second time since the conclusion of the 2022 season.
