Former Jets QB makes huge prediction about Aaron Rodgers' commitment

Former New York Jets quarterback and current "The NFL Today" analyst Boomer Esiason believes Aaron Rodgers will spend several seasons as the club's starter.

"I think they went out there for the initial meetings and told him, 'This is how we have to do things,' and I think he understood that," Esiason said about the Jets and Rodgers during Thursday's edition of the WFAN morning show, per Ryan Chichester of Audacy. "I think he gave them a three-year commitment. I think they have to do that because of cap reasons and things of that nature." 

Rodgers suggested shortly after his trade from the Green Bay Packers became official in late April that playing for the Jets "isn’t a one-and-done in my mind" even though he turns 40 years old in early December and publicly flirted with retirement over the past couple of years. It was later mentioned that Rodgers would likely have to make at least a two-year commitment to the Jets to ensure he earns over $100M attached to his contract. 

While Esiason has ties to the Jets and presumably would possess at least some inside information about discussions between the franchise and Rodgers, the retired signal-caller acknowledged that the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player could always change his mind. 

"...Let’s say, the best-case scenario, he gets them to the playoffs, they lose in the playoffs, but he had a good year," Esiason continued. "He’s definitely coming back. Worst-case scenario, let’s say he plays three games, blows out a shoulder, and is done for the year. Who knows what the future then holds? There are all different variables. He’s not gonna only be here for one year. That’s my point."

Esiason added he has heard Rodgers has "a refreshed attitude" following his reunion with Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. The future Hall of Famer earned MVP honors for the 2020 and 2021 campaigns playing under Hackett in Green Bay. 

Former quarterback and current ESPN personality Dan Orlovsky shared a similar take in May about Rodgers being "refreshed" while having a "chip on the shoulder" with the Jets.
