While it doesn’t come as a shock to fans of the Big 12 Conference, former Kansas State running back DJ Giddens is turning heads at the next level.

After being selected in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Giddens has been incredible in training camp with the Indianapolis Colts, and many are beginning to take note.

The first to chime in on Giddens’ upside was Dynasty Dad, a popular fantasy football creator, who highlighted the former Wildcat as one of his favorite “insurance” running backs in 2025.

“DJ Giddens is one of my favorite INSURANCE RBs,” he wrote on X. “Learning the Position, but has Tools. Creates yards with elusiveness, natural hands, and route-running, and back-to-back 1600-yard seasons. JT [Jonathan Taylor] has missed games every year, making Giddens a MUST OWN!”

The next to rave about Giddens was a sports gambler by the name of CleverBet, who said, “Colts rookie RB DJ Giddens, a 5th-round pick out of Kansas State, is turning heads in Indy. If he impresses in pass-blocking and catching, he could claim the RB2 spot behind Taylor. Giddens racked up 3,000+ scrimmage yards and 21 TDs in his last two college seasons.”

Giddens joins a loaded running back room with Jonathan Taylor as the lead back, who has established himself as one of the premier running backs in the league. The Kansas native is no stranger to earning his spot, however, as he walked on at Kansas State, where he became an NFL prospect.

DJ Giddens’ first taste of NFL action will likely come on Thursday, August 7th, against the Baltimore Ravens in Game One of the NFL Preseason.
