Former Longhorn Kris Boyd Explains Sideline Outburst vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Former Texas cornerback Kris Boyd has faced severe backlash on social media after an early game incident in the Houston Texans' loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round.

Just seconds into the game, Boyd appeared to have shoved his special teams coach Frank Ross after a fumble recovery from the Chiefs. Boyd told reporters post-game that this was a misinterpretation of the scene, which was in reality his reaction to what he thought was a forced turnover -- he went to the sidelines to celebrate.

In excitement, Boyd took his helmet off and shoved Ross, resulting in a 15-yard penalty.

“I was just too excited,” Boyd said, per KPRC Houston. “Did something that I shouldn’t have done. I shouldn’t have done it. Keep my helmet on. …I was turnt. First play, they thought they broke it and had a big play and I got the ball out. As I’m getting up and look at the screen, I see ‘number white’ and they all pointing that way. I was like, ‘Oh yeah, we got the ball!’ I was just turnt. You’ll see. I was running over to everybody getting ready to shake their hand, but then someone grabbed me and was like, ‘Nah, that’s not good. We got a flag and it’s their ball.’”

But the internet doesn't seem to believe his words, and Boyd has suffered intense hate since it happened. He will be a free agent after this season, depending on Houston's decision to resign him. Nonetheless, Boyd hopes to pass on the right message from the incident.

“I had talked to him and apologized because he said that and I was like, ‘What you mean? I got a turnover.," Boyd said. "Then he was like, ‘Nah, that’s not why I was coming to talk to you.’ He was just telling me, ‘You can’t do things like that. Just keep your composure. That was six seconds at the beginning of the game. We’ve got a whole other ball game to play.’"

The Texans ultimately fell to the reigning Super Bowl champions 23-14.
