Former Los Angeles Rams RB on Kyren Williams: He’s a Beast, I Love His Game
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

The LA Football Network had the opportunity to catch up with former Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley at Keith Smith Skills Camp in Covina, CA. When asked if the Rams should add another running back in the draft, Gurley was convinced that they would be just fine with Kyren Williams as the team’s primary.

They good. They got Kyren Williams. He was second in the league in rushing [yards], but missed like five games. You tell me the last running back that did that. I can’t think of nobody. He’s a beast. All pro player. I love what he’s doing. I love his game.

Williams finished the season with 1144 yards behind just Christian McCaffrey and Derrick Henry. He was fifth in touchdowns with 12. Williams missed four games due to injury, Weeks 7, 8, 9, and 11. He also split duties in Week 1 with Cam Akers and was a healthy scratch in Week 18. Williams had the 2nd most yards before contact, 3.0 yards. He was just .1 yards behind McCaffrey. But Williams also finished less than .1 yards after contact behind McCaffrey. He also picked up one fewer first down than Henry despite playing in five fewer games.

Gurley did say that it would be smart to add another running back to take the load off Williams, saying “It would be good to have someone that could come in and compliment him, but they are in good hands with him.”

In the games that Williams missed the Rams went 2-3. The margin of victory in those two games was one point. The Ram averaged 120 yards on the ground last season and just 97 yards when he was out of the game. They currently have Ronnie Rivers and Zach Evans on the depth chart behind Williams. Rivers played on 93 snaps last season and Evans just 16.

Over the past two seasons, Williams has missed 12 games due to injury.
