Former New York Giants Star Is Auctioning His Super Bowl XLII Ring

Former Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett isn't the only ex-Super Bowl champion auctioning off some of his treasured memorabilia.

According to reports, Plaxico Burress, who caught the game-winning touchdown pass to dash New England's undefeated hopes back in 2007, is putting his Super Bowl XLII ring up for grabs.

The hardware is being auctioned off by Heritage Auctions and the highest-bid currently sits at $72,500 with almost two weeks left to go.

Bennett's ring recently fetched more than $88,000 on the auction market and it's hard to imagine Plax's jewelry won't be able to outdo that.

Burress recorded 70 catches, 1,025 yards and a dozen touchdowns on the G-Men's road to the Super Bowl and he came up huge for New York in that year's NFC Championship with a monster 151-yard performance.

Burress only caught two balls in the Giants' upset of Tom Brady and the 18-1* Patriots but he certainly made them count.

With 39 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Plaxico beat Ellis Hobbs off the line and hauled in what would normally be one of the most memorable plays in Super Bowl history — had it not been for David Tyree's helmet catch just moments earlier.

Burress' career would go on to be marred by some legal troubles when he accidentally shot himself in the leg with an illegal firearm at a NYC nightclub; which resulted in a two-year prison sentence.

Back in 2014, Burress admitted to Giants.com that he'd only worn the ring "five or six times" since receiving it.
