Former NFL Pro Bowl WR makes strong statement about what the Giants should do with former Tennessee WR Jalin Hyatt's roster spot

There have been some rumblings recently that the New York Giants are interested in adding wide receiver Gabe Davis to the roster.

Davis, who spent the first four seasons of his career with the Buffalo Bills, was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this month.

The former UCF standout caught 20 passes for 239 yard and two touchdowns in 2024 during his lone season with the Jaguars.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll was Davis' offensive coordinator in Buffalo in 2020 and 2021.

If the Giants were to sign Davis, it would likely result in former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt getting buried on the depth chart in 2025.

Hyatt, a third round selection by the Giants in the 2023 NFL Draft, was barely involved in New York's offense in 2024 despite showing promise as a rookie the previous season.

The former Vol hasn't produced yet in the NFL due to a lack of opportunity.

Former Giants wide receiver Allen Robinson, who was briefly teammates with Hyatt in 2024, doesn't think New York should sign Davis. Instead, he thinks the Giants need to give Hyatt a legitimate shot to prove what he can do in the NFL.

“I think you’ve got to kind of find out where Jalin Hyatt can fit into that role,” said Robinson on the Talkin’ Ball with Pat Leonard podcast. “I know Gabe Davis will have some familiarity, but if I was the Giants right now, rather than bringing in another receiver, I would be trying to figure out how do we unlock and untap Jalin Hyatt’s potential.”

"Russell Wilson like to push it down the field in the play action game," added Robinson. "Jameis [Winston] always loves to push it down the field. Having Jalin right now on your roster, maybe they can sit tight and see how that plays out. He is a young, explosive receiver. And not many teams have those guys just sitting around.”

It's baffling that the Giants haven't given Hyatt more of a chance -- especially considering the team's offensive woes in recent seasons (the Giants had the No. 31 scoring offense in the league in 2024).

Hyatt's specialty is stretching the field. And Wilson, who is expected to serve as the Giants' starting quarterback in 2025, throws one of the best deep balls in the league. The Giants should take Robinson's advice and give Hyatt a chance this fall. We saw Hyatt dominate against the top competition in college football in 2022, why not give him some extended run in the offense to see what he can do in the NFC East?
