Former NFL QB Rips Into Bears, Calls For Justin Fields Trade
Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

Things have not gone according to plan for the Chicago Bears in the 2023 season. What was supposed to be a year of encouraging steps forward has been more of the same in Windy City, as the Bears have become the laughingstock of the NFL.

While Chicago isn’t the only 0-3 team in the NFL, they feel like the most helpless. At least the other teams who don’t have a victory yet this season have had stretches of competitive performance on the field. The same cannot be said about the Bears, who have suffered double-digit losses in all three games.

This past weekend’s game was especially embarrassing. Chicago went on the road to face the Kansas City Chiefs and played America’s Game of the Week on FOX Sports. The entire nation got to see how much of a dumpster fire the Bears have become, as the game was over before they stepped on the field.

Kansas City scored the first 41 points of the game, cruising to a 41-10 victory. The team’s passing offense remains a mess with Justin Fields at the helm as he completed 11-of-22 passes for 99 yards, adding a team-high 47 rushing yards on 11 attempts. He had one passing touchdown and one interception on the game, absorbing three more sacks.

There isn’t much to currently get excited about when it comes to the Bears. They have a league-worst -59 point differential despite the Denver Broncos giving up 70 points and losing by 50 in Week 3.

That has led some people to take some shots at the Bears, including a former quarterback of their biggest rivals, the Green Bay Packers. Kurt Benkert, who appeared in one game with the Packers in 2021, called the Bears the new Detroit Lions. He also believes the team should trade Fields to give him a chance to succeed on X, formerly known as Twitter.

That is certainly a bold statement from Benkert, but it would be hard to argue against him. The Lions were the laughingstock of the NFL for a long time before general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell changed the culture in recent seasons.

Chicago needs a change like that as general manager Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus are not getting the job done currently. While they are only in the second year of their partnership, this doesn’t look like a duo that will be able to get the franchise on track.
