Former NFL RB gave glowing praise to Saquon Barkley (that fans will love to hear)

Just another day in Philadelphia with Eagles running back Saquon Barkley topping another running back rankings. This time, a fellow back delivered the opinion.

Former NFL running back turned analyst Maurice Jones-Drew shared his rankings of the best running backs in the NFL entering the 2025 season. Barkley stood alone at number one.

"It's hard to imagine Barkley having a better campaign than the debut he just enjoyed in Philadelphia. He became the ninth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a season before helping lead the Eagles to the franchise's second Super Bowl title. Signing a two-year extension this offseason, the dark-horse MVP candidate is again set up to thrive with the Eagles essentially returning the entire offense for 2025, including most of the big boys up front."

Nothing new with Barkley getting another number one ranking

This week has been busy, with Barkley ranking as the best in multiple categories. ESPN shared a survey in which NFL personnel named Barkley the best running back in the NFL. He was also included in another ESPN ranking as the Eagles were named the number one offensive weapon group in the league going into 2025.

It shouldn't come as too much of a surprise after what Barkley did in 2024. Eagles fans know it, but let's recap just for fun: 2,504 rushing yards in the regular season and playoffs (NFL record), NFL's leading rusher in regular season with 2,005 yards (ninth player ever to do that), Offensive Player of the Year winner, and Super Bowl champion.

Pretty good for his first year in Philadelphia. What will his encore be in 2025?

While expectations are sky high for the running back, a lot of people are looking for him to take a dip in his stats. No one is expecting him to touch the ball over 330 times again like last year.

Barkley has his eyes on getting another 2,000-yard season, which would be the first time that's ever happened. He's got the offensive line and support around him to do it. It's no surprise why everyone has been singing his praises this offseason.
