Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley sparked quite the conversation regarding who the top five teams in NFL history are that have everyone talking.
While appearing on his teammates Cooper DeJean and Reed Blankenship's Exciting Mics podcast, Barkley boldly claimed that the 2024 Super Bowl-winning Eagles' team is among the top five best of all time.
"I firmly believe, when you look at our team that we had last year—and I know we're not looking too far into the past—but our team last year. I think we're a top-five team of all time."
That statement has started a storm in the media, with everyone giving their opinions. However, former NFL receiver Keyshawn Johnson might have taken it a step too far.
While on the FS1 show Speak, Johnson and the rest of the panel shared their thoughts on Barkley's top five claim. Johnson disagreed with Barkley.
"In all honesty, buddy, nah not quite. I understand that they won the Super Bowl and that he 2,000 yards and was getting ready to break the record and all sorts of things and they sat him down. But, no. They're not one of the top five teams in the history of the National Football League."

Johnson played 11 seasons in the NFL with four different teams. He made three Pro Bowls with the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but his time in the hot Florida sun gave him his only Super Bowl title.
This is where his commentary takes it to a whole new level that hasn't really been discussed in the media at all.
During the end of his argument against the Eagles being a top-five team, Johnson seems to take a shot at Barkley and how he would stack up against his Super Bowl-winning Buccaneers team. Johnson doesn't believe Barkley would play well against them.
"Lord, please don't tell me about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Saquon Barkley would’ve had seven yards against our defense. I'm just going to keep it a buck. It can go viral. you can say whatever you want to say. Saquon Barkley would have had a rough day and I love him as a running back. Love him to death. Against that defense with Derrick Brooks and company. Regardless of what the record looks like."
If someone were to play devil's advocate here, Johnson would be fair in talking up the ,2002 Buccaneers defense, as they were a historic unit. That group is considered one of the greatest ever, as they allowed just 252.8 yards per game, 45 yards per game less than the second-place team that season: the Eagles. Tampa's secondary had a 10-to-31 touchdown-to-interception ratio and allowed an incredibly low 155.6 passing yards per game that season.
Let's not forget that Barkley is coming off a record-breaking season with 2,504 yards, more rushing yards in the regular season and playoffs than any other player in NFL history. He also had a staggering 499 rushing yards and five touchdowns in four postseason games.
The "what-if" conversations are hard to determine since no one will ever really know the results. Johnson tried to give his respect to Barkley at the end of his comment, but the damage was done.
In one year, Barkley showed the league why he is the best current running back and is on the doorstep of being in the all-time conversation. It's unjust to say he would struggle against the 2002 Buccaneers' defense when Barkley has already proven to have played at a high level.
