Former Oklahoma State Star Wide Receiver Makes Super Bowl With San Francisco 49ers

Ahead of Week 17, the San Francisco 49ers elevated wide receiver and former Oklahoma State star Tay Martin when Jauan Jennings was dealing with an injury. Ahead of the season, Martin was waived by the 49ers and signed to the practice squad.

As mentioned, he was eventually called up for one game, where he appeared for seven snaps -- three offensively and four on special teams -- though he didn't record a single stat. 

After the game, Martin was sent back to the practice squad. While he won't participate in the Super Bowl, should the 49ers win, he will get a Super Bowl ring. He is the only remaining Oklahoma State alumni for the NFL season.

The 26-year-old appeared in two games during the 2022 season, totaling 22 snaps over the course of two games. That is the extent of his NFL experience after finishing his five-year college football career.

Martin spent three seasons with Washington State before transferring to Oklahoma State for his final two seasons. He played in 37 games with Washington State, catching 143 passes for 1,615 passing yards and 18 receiving touchdowns. 

Ahead of the 2020 season, Martin transferred to Oklahoma State, where he spent his COVID season and his final season in 2021. He played in eight games and caught 15 passes for 149 receiving yards. In the 2021 season, Martin had a breakout season, playing 13 games and catching 80 passes for 1,046 receiving yards and ten touchdowns. He also added a rushing score on the season.

While Martin went undrafted in the NFL Draft, he was signed to the 49ers' practice squad. Still, the former Cowboy remains the last alum standing in the NFL and could soon be celebrating a Super Bowl win with his teammates.
