On the precipice of what should be one of the most impressive NFL Draft classes in Ole Miss college football program history another former Rebel just sent shockwaves around the NFL.

Laremy Tunsil, one of the best offensive lineman to ever put on an Ole Miss Rebels uniform was just traded from the Houston Texans to the Washington Commanders amid the NFL free agency frenzy on Monday.

Washington received Tunsil and a 2025 fourth round pick. Houston received a 2025 third round pick, a 2025 7th round pick, a 2026 2nd round pick, and a 2026 4th round pick. That's not a bad haul for a 31-year-old offensive tackle. The move also freed up $13.85 million in cap room for the Texans.

It's incredible to see Laremy Tunsil garner this much value in an NFL trade all these years later after being drafted in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. This move just further solidifies Tunsil's legacy as not only one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL over the last several years, but also perhaps the best in Ole Miss football history too.

Tunsil was of course a two-time first team All-SEC player in 2014 and 2015 for the Ole Miss Rebels. Then he followed that up by making the PFWA All-Rookie Team for the Miami Dolphins back in 2016 and the Pro Bowl five times in 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024.

The trade of Tunsil certainly signifies where the Commanders believe they are as the team attempts to further protect their new franchise quarterback in Jayden Daniels, likely pushing for a Super Bowl in 2025 or 2026. Conversely, the Texans seems to be restructuring around their franchise QB, C.J. Stroud. The move has already garnered significantly negative attention from Texans fans hoping to see another offensive leap in 2025.

As Tunsil immediately plugs in as the starting left tackle for the Washington Commanders in 2025 this likely gives him his best shot at competing for a Super Bowl that he's had since joining the NFL. Let's hope the former Ole Miss product gets that opportunity here soon.
