Former Oregon Duck star receiver proving offseason hype was warranted after strong start to the 2025 NFL season

The buzz around Troy Franklin all offseason wasn’t just talk - it’s showing up on Sundays. The former Oregon Ducks star opened his second NFL season with strong back-to-back performances, immediately establishing himself as one of Denver’s most reliable weapons.

In Week 1 against the Titans, Franklin hauled in four catches for 44 yards, flashing the speed and smooth route-running that made him a dangerous college receiver. But it was Week 2 against the Colts where Franklin truly broke out, leading the Broncos with eight receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown - all career highs. The Broncos utilized Franklin throughout the offense and schemed him up touches via screens, reverse sweeps, and a nifty rub route that allowed him to find the end zone. They clearly want the ball in his hands and have made it a priority.

For a young receiver still finding his footing at the pro level, that kind of leap is exactly what Broncos fans and Franklin were hoping for.

Chemistry with Bo Nix

What makes Franklin’s rise even more exciting is the connection he’s built with rookie quarterback Bo Nix, his former Oregon teammate. The two showed elite timing and trust in Eugene, and it’s already translating seamlessly to the NFL. Nix looked Franklin’s way early and often against Indianapolis, targeting him in key situations and rewarding his crisp routes with catch-and-run opportunities.

That trust is why Franklin has quickly separated himself from the rest of Denver’s receiver group. With Courtland Sutton locked in as the No. 1 option, Franklin has become the clear No. 2 weapon in the passing attack - a role that gives him plenty of opportunities to build on this hot start.

Oregon pipeline

Franklin’s emergence continues the pipeline of Oregon playmakers thriving at the next level. Just as he once carried the Ducks’ passing game, he’s now stepping up in Denver’s offense when his team needs him most. If the first two weeks are any indication, Franklin isn’t just filling a role - he’s on the path to becoming a reliable weapon in the NFL.
