Former Pac-12 Head Coach Drawing NFL Interest

With the NFL regular season ending on Sunday, a flurry of teams are now searching for a new head coach.

While some teams fired their head coach during the season, including the Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints and New York Jets, the Jacksonville Jaguars and New England Patriots joined the fold after the conclusion of Week 18.

Several candidates are being tossed around, with Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel as the most common names.

However, former Stanford head coach David Shaw is drawing interest, per a report from Jane Slater

"Two sources informed tells me the #Saints are gonna interview David Shaw for their HC position. Shaw is currently a senior personnel executive for the Denver Broncos," Slater wrote.

Shaw has been in the coaching circles since 1995 when he began as the outside linebackers coach at Western Washington, so he has a ton of experience.

Shaw's most notable run came while he was the head coach at Stanford. He compiled a 96-54 record in 12 seasons with a 5-3 bowl game record.

Two of those bowl game wins were in the Rose Bowl, with the biggest coming in the 2016 Rose Bowl when Stanford topped Iowa behind a huge showing from Christian McCaffrey. He also coached Andrew Luck while at Stanford, so he has been part of some prominent NFL names.

Shaw's final two years were disappointing as the Cardinal went 3-9 each season. As a result, Shaw resigned at the end of the 2022 campaign.

Shaw spent time with each of the Philadelphia Eagles, Oakland Raiders, Baltimore Ravens, and San Diego Chargers as an assistant before going to Stanford. He also spent this past season as an executive with the Denver Broncos, so he has been around the NFL plenty during his career.

The Saints fired Dennis Allen at the start of November, and now the coaching search ramps up more with the season over.

Shaw interviewed for the Broncos head coaching job in 2023, so now he will interview for another job in this cycle.
