Former Packers QB calls out Matt LaFleur's 'outdated' offensive scheme

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has come under fire because of his team's lousy start in the post-Aaron Rodgers era.

The Packers are 2-3 and riding a two-game losing streak coming off a beatdown at the hands of the Detroit Lions on "Thursday Night Football" followed by an uninspired performance against the Las Vegas Raiders on "Monday Night Football."

LaFleur's offense is ranked 28th in the league in yards per game and his quarterback, Jordan Love, seems to be regressing game-by-game. Once thought of as an offensive guru from the coaching tree of Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay, LaFleur seems exposed without a future Hall of Famer guiding his offense.

But is it Love, or is it the offense?

According to someone who knows that offense, former Packers backup quarterback Kurt Benkert, it's actually the scheme that's the problem.

"It’s outdated, and there is a better way to play offense right now," Benkert said on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

It's worth noting that Benkert was also open about the fact that he and LaFleur butted heads quite a bit when he was with the team. He also didn't have a ton of experience with LaFleur and the Packers. He was a practice squad player for most of 2021, but he did make the active roster in December due to Love being placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
