Former Packers RB Jamaal Williams returns to familiar place amid uncertain future

Running back Jamaal Williams is a familiar face for Green Bay Packers fans. After all, he spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Packers, who selected him in the fourth round (134th overall) of the 2017 NFL draft. Williams is also currently a free agent after getting released by the New Orleans Saints following a two-season stint with the NFC South division franchise. The Saints wanted to clear some cap space in the offseason, and by parting ways with Williams, they saved $1.59 million against the cap.

Months later, Williams remains without a team, with NFL training camps just around the corner.

Former Packers RB works out at his college team’s campus

As he waits for a call from a potential employer, Williams recently went to one of his old stomping grounds, making an appearance at BYU.

In a video posted by BYU football, Williams shared a message to Cougars Nation.

“I’m back here at BYU, working out, having fun. I’m kind of mad because they got all this good stuff now. They got vending machines. All of it,” said Williams, who played college football for the Cougars from 2012 to 2016.

“Proud to be back. Love you, BYU. Be good. Go Cougs,” he added.

During this time with the Cougars, Williams rushed for 3,901 yards and 35 touchdowns on 726 carries. He also posted 567 receiving yards and a touchdown on 60 receptions. Williams made his presence felt on the field with the Packers as well, as he produced 1,985 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns, plus 961 receiving yards and eight scoring receptions with Green Bay.

The 30-year-old Williams can still provide insurance in a running back room, though it remains to be seen whether the Packers have interest in a reunion.
