Former Patriot Attempting to Recruit NFC East Receiver
USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown is no stranger to being the subject of rumors, whether intentional or not.

This off-season, Brown has been linked to the New England Patriots often for many different reasons. One reason is his first NFL head coach, Mike Vrabel, now with the Patriots.

Another is Brown's appreciation for former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and former wide receiver Julian Edelman. While this is harmless appreciation from Brown, Edelman might be looking to get Brown to join the Patriots.

Brown posted a video of himself joyously showing off his signed Brady and Edelman jerseys. While Brown is having fun with the gifts, Edelman sends a message.

Edelman commented on the video, “All day bro. Feel free to rock 11 when you sign.”

Edelman’s number isn’t retired by the Patriots, but he will get Brown the opportunity to wear No. 11, a number he has worn since entering the league. The two have an established personal connection as receivers and friends. Brown also grew up as a Patriots fan.

Edelman knows the potential that Brown can bring to the Patriots’ offense, which ranked last in the league in the 2024 season. New England added four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs as a key weapon for incoming second-year quarterback Drake Maye.

Eagles fans aren’t going to be happy with Edelman trying to pull Brown in the direction of the Patriots, but Brown has managed to diffuse the situation. Time will tell if the Eagles continue to let Brown get legally tampered with into demanding a trade to come to New England.

Brown signed a three-year, $96 million extension with the Eagles last April. He has a potential out in the 2027 off-season with a dead cap of only $13.9 million. The 25-year-old three-time Pro-Bowler and Super Bowl champion is slated to become a free agent in the 2030 off-season when he is set to become 33 years old by the time the season starts.
