Settling the quarterback room is one of the biggest objectives a team could make during the off-season. The Kansas City Chiefs might have settled their quarterback room by signing a former New England Patriot.
NFL insider Tom Pelissero reports the Chiefs have signed Bailey Zappe to a one-year deal. This move comes less than 24 hours after the Chiefs signed Gardner Minshew to also join the team.

The Patriots drafted Zappe in the fourth round (pick No. 137) of the 2022 NFL Draft from Western Kentucky. Zappe became the starting quarterback in week four of his rookie season after the injury to starting quarterback Mac Jones. He was 2-1 as the starting quarterback that season. Zappe completed 70.7% of his passes for 781 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions.
In the following season, the Patriots gave Zappe a chance to take over the starting quarterback position ahead of a struggling Jones. Zappe was 2-4 as the starter as he completed 59.9% of his passes for 1,272 yards, six touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
He was eventually released by the Patriots in the final 2024 training camp roster cuts. Two days later, Zappe was signed to the Chiefs’ practice squad.
After nearly two months in Kansas City, Zappe was signed to the Cleveland Browns active roster on Oct. 22. In the 35-10 regular-season finale road loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Zappe completed 16-of-31 of his passes for 170 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
Zappe is on his fourth team in three years. He is now likely to be the third-string quarterback under Patrick Mahomes and Minshew.
