Carl Nassib now has his defining moment in the NFL immortalized at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.

On Wednesday, the NFL posted on X that Nassib has his Las Vegas Raiders No. 94 jersey from the team’s game against the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 13, 2021 on display at the Smithsonian. The jersey has been on exhibit since May 21.

The game marks a historic milestone in Nassib’s career and the NFL, as it was the first game Nassib played after coming out as gay in an Instagram video in June of that year. By playing against the Ravens, Nassib became the first openly gay NFL player to play in a game.

Nassib would go on to make one of the key plays of the game, recording a strip sack on Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson in overtime that lead to the game-winning touchdown for the Raiders.

On the “Pivot Podcast” with former NFL player and analyst Ryan Clark in May, Nassib announced that the Smithsonian had reached out to him about the plans for his jersey to go on display.

“They reached out to me last year. They said, ‘Hey, we would love to add this to our collection.’ I said, ‘Absolutely, this is huge,'” Nassib said.

“I can’t wait for my family to go see it, all my friends to go see it. Again, it’s like, this is a thank you to people that came before me. I really didn’t do much for it. I was gifted these opportunities. I earned my spot as a football player, but I was gifted all these opportunities.”

A third-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2016, Nassib played with the Raiders for two seasons (2020-21). During his tenure with the Raiders, Nassib recorded 49 tackles (33 solo), four sacks, one forced fumble and one interception.
