Former Oakland Raiders center Barret Robbins has passed away this week at the age of 52.
Robbins, a former second-round pick from TCU, started his NFL career in 1995. His best season came in 2002 when he earned All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors. Unfortunately, his post-football career was filled with controversy.
In late 2004, Robbins was arrested for punching a security guard. In January 2005, he was shot three times after a brawl with the authorities in Miami Beach. He was later sentenced to five years' probation after receiving an attempted murder charge. His most recent legal troubles came in 2020 when he allegedly threw a rock at a restaurant employee in Delray Beach.
On Friday afternoon, the Raiders sadly confirmed that Robbins died.
"The Raiders Family is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Barret Robbins," the team said in a statement. "Oakland’s second-round draft pick out of TCU in 1995, he was among the league’s top centers over nine seasons with the Raiders, earning first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors in 2002. He played in 121 career games with 105 starts, all with the Silver and Black. The thoughts and condolences of the entire Raider Nation are with Barret’s family and friends during this difficult time."
