Former Raiders starter finally finds landing spot for this season

It took more time than anticipated, but Jack Jones has finally found a new home for the 2025 season.

On Saturday, it was announced that the former Las Vegas Raiders starting cornerback was signed by the Miami Dolphins, along with potential Raiders target Mike Hilton.

The two arrive in Miami after a series of moves shook up the cornerback depth for the Dolphins. Jalen Ramsey’s trade to Pittsburgh certainly played a role, but Artie Burns’s torn ACL further compounded the issue. As a result, the signings of Jones and Hilton became necessary moves for the Dolphins coming into the season.

For the Dolphins, the move to sign Jones is a low-risk, high-reward gamble, not too similar to when the Raiders landed him off of waivers from the New England Patriots in 2023.

While last season was not smooth for Jones, he did show playmaking chops worth taking a flyer on. In all 17 games for the Raiders in 2024, Jones recorded 69 tackles, 16 passes defended and three interceptions. Those are far from bad numbers, and certainly not ones typically found on a free agent available this late.

The injuries piling up now give Jones a clear path to a starting job in Miami.

Hilton is a slot cornerback more brought on to provide competition with Kader Kohou. Meanwhile, the only cornerbacks threatening Jones on the roster are 2024 undrafted free agent Storm Duck and 2023 second-round pick Cam Smith. Jones as the top cornerback on the roster is not necessarily ideal (a fact Raiders fans found out all too well last season), but he at least prevents the position from being a total liability.

With the Raiders not facing the Dolphins in 2025, fans can wish for Jones’s success at his new home with no problems.
