Former Saints DT Malcom Brown 'ecstatic' about trade to Jaguars

The New Orleans Saints originally planned to release defensive tackle Malcom Brown after attempts to trade him didn't work out. They eventually found a trade partner in the Jaguars, sending Brown to Jacksonville in exchange for a seventh-round pick.

While some players wouldn't necessarily be thrilled about a trade to Jacksonville after the season it had in 2020, Brown admitted that he's excited for the opportunity, especially because his college head coach, Charlie Strong, is on the Jaguars staff, via John Reid of The Florida Times-Union:

"I was ecstatic. I heard what coaches were here and what direction they were going in and like I said, I was happy. I already knew the situation I was in over in New Orleans, I already knew they had to get under cap space. When the trade happened, I was on the phone, I was happy, I was running around the house. It doesn't matter where the program was last year, it's about what we do next year."

Brown spent the last two years of his career with the Saints after four seasons with the New England Patriots. The 27-year-old recorded one sack, 27 tackles and two quarterback hits in 13 games last season.

The Saints have had to make several moves this offseason in order to get under the salary cap. Michael Thomas, Malcolm Jenkins, Andrus Peat, Cam Jordan and Demario Davis are among players who have reworked their deals, while Emmanuel Sanders, Janoris Jenkins and Kwon Alexander were released.
