Former Steelers Disagree Over Aaron Rodgers Interest

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is nothing if not divisive. Green Bay Packers fans are appreciative of his contributions and grateful he’s gone. The New York Jets fell in and out of love with the future Hall of Famer. The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t yet signed him, but as the overwhelming favorite to acquire him, he’s become a topic of conversation in Western Pennsylvania.

Needless to say, fans are split on whether the sport’s most polarizing passer would be a good fit in Pittsburgh.

The discourse has spread to members of the Steelers’ past, too. Recently, Terry Bradshaw took to the airwaves to express his displeasure with the pursuit of Rodgers.

"That's a joke. That is, just to me, is a joke," Bradshaw said in a radio interview with 103.7 The Buzz in Arkansas. "What are you going to do? Bring him in for one year, are you kidding me? That guy needs to stay in California. Go somewhere and chew on bark and whisper to the gods out there."

Rodgers’ off-field experiences have been a point of contention. Between the conspiracies and podcast appearances, ayahuasca trips and ill-timed vacations, the quarterback isn’t everybody’s cup of tea. Getting a late start to the season, missing out on OTAs and the crucial time to get up to speed in offensive coordinator Arthur Smith’s offense doesn’t help, either.

And yet, Rodgers remains an option because he’s Pittsburgh’s best bet to win a playoff game in 2025. Subsequently, former Steelers cornerback Bryant McFadden disagreed with Bradshaw’s Rodgers comments.

"I disagree with the Hall of Famer," McFadden explained, via Alex Kozora of Steelers Depot. "I disagree with the Steeler alum and here's why. Aaron Rodgers, right now...he is a better quarterback option than Mason Rudolph. That's the facts. I know Aaron Rodgers is at the end of his Hall of Fame career, but right now, he is a better QB option than Mason Rudolph."

It isn’t clear whether Rodgers will ultimately put pen to paper in Pittsburgh. As the calendar turns to June and Rudolph remains atop the depth chart, though, it feels increasingly likely that the Steelers legend will get his wish.
