Former Steelers FB Announces Retirement

A former Pittsburgh Steeler fullback and the brother of one of the team's current stars has called it a career.

Derek Watt, brother of star T.J. Watt, announced on Twitter this week that he would retire from football after spending seven seasons in the NFL with the Chargers and Steelers.

“I am retiring from this incredible game feeling full of gratitude and satisfaction knowing that I gave it my all each and every day,” Watt said. “Never took any shortcuts and achieved so many of my goals along the way. It was all worth it.”

Watt spent three seasons in Pittsburgh, totaling 10 total rushes for 22 yards, a touchdown and nine first downs on those attempts. He added 8 receptions for 28 yards and a touchdown over that same span.

The former sixth-round pick out of Wisconsin ends his career with 110 games played, 71 rushing yards and a pair of scores on the ground in addition to 178 receiving yards and a touchdown on 18 receptions. Watt never fumbled during his time in San Diego and Pittsburgh.
