Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf aren't exactly scared to share their opinions.
Two of the better players at their respective positions in their minds, if they have something to say, they will say it.
And according to Chris Long, it's only a matter of time before those two butt heads...
“When he [Aaron Rodgers] was in New York — and I’m not taking a shot, but I don’t love seeing stuff that should be worked out in the locker room, worked out on podcast,” Long told Rich Eisen on The Rich Eisen Show. “Metcalf has not always been the most surgical route runner. You talk about if we end up in a situation where somebody’s not on the right side of the ‘red line’, famously, infamously, I could see some stuff like that happening — and the growing pains being tough.”
I know that Metcalf said all the right things about Rodgers, and I'm sure the decorated quarterback is excited to play with one of the most gifted players in the league. They obviously have been working out together for months and established that connection in a Steelers uniform last week at mandatory minicamp.
“Just how cerebral he is and how he views the game,” Metcalf said when asked what stands out about Rodgers at minicamp last week. “I like the way he views the game from a receiver’s standpoint, but also from a quarterback’s standpoint. I think I can gain a lot of knowledge just from being around him because he’s seen a lot of football. Just trying to soak up as much information as I can.”
But this is all a honeymoon phase. What happens in the exact scenario that Long is speaking about? When it's a high-pressure situation, and Metcalf cuts his route short or doesn't carry his momentum the way Rodgers would have liked, and the QB yells at the WR?
In a perfect world, it never happens. But two players who have never played together, both of whom are in a new offense and new city, have a lot to learn and growing pains are sure to be a part of that.
