One former NFL star has weighed in on the New England Patriots’ season and how Drake Maye can make them a tough team to beat in the playoffs.
Rookie quarterback Drake Maye has exceeded expectations in his first NFL season, showing poise and consistency under pressure.
The Patriots now sit at the top of the AFC East with a 12–3 record, securing their place in the playoffs after a run that has surprised many NFL fans.
Former Green Bay Packers star Kurt Warner was a guest on the Rich Eisen Show, where he discussed the New England Patriots and how well they have done under head coach Mike Vrabel.
Warner singled out Vrabel for praise, identifying how he has strengthened the team’s fundamentals. On top of that, Drake Maye’s ability to make the right decisions makes the Patriots a tough team to beat.
“I think New England’s a team that has learned how to win a lot of different ways… It just seems like a Mike Vrabel-type team.
“They might not overly impress you in any one area at any point in time, or they may not go out and beat you by 25 points, but they are going to be solid across the board in every facet….
“Drake Maye takes over and just continues to get better — methodically working the ball down the field, making the right decisions over and over again.
“I think him, Mike Vrabel, and Josh McDaniels — the way they balance out their sides of the ball, the even-keeled nature of Mike Vrabel — that’s what it’s all about…
“So they’re going to be a tough out. I don’t know if they’re a great football team, but I think they’re really solid in a lot of different ways.
“You’re going to have to beat them. You’re going to have to go in and outplay them across the board to beat that football team because if you don’t, they’re going to take advantage of it.”
The New England Patriots have already earned a spot in the playoffs, which means they have the luxury of taking their foot off the gas.
What is interesting about the AFC this season is that many of the heavy-hitters in the conference are either out of the playoff picture or are close to being eliminated from playoff contention.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals are out, meaning two of the NFL’s best quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow, will not be making a playoff appearance.
While the Baltimore Ravens, led by Lamar Jackson, have to stay near-perfect in their remaining games to have a chance to reach the playoffs.
As a result, the AFC is considered wide open, and the Patriots are one of the teams backed to reach the Super Bowl.
However, in order to get there, they will have to either beat the Denver Broncos or the Buffalo Bills, who have also had excellent seasons.
