Former Tennessee Vols coach who threw Jeremy Pruitt under the bus lands job with Dallas Cowboys

Derrick Ansley worked at Tennessee during the recruiting scandal that cost Jeremy Pruitt his job

Ansley was one of the assistant coaches implicated in the 2020 recruiting scandal at Tennessee that cost Pruitt his job.

The scandal was a massive story despite the fact that it involved just $60,000 in impermissible benefits that went to players and/or players' families (nothing compared to what players are now legally receiving, which is often seven figures for the top players/recruits).

Ansley, who received a two year show-cause penalty because of the scandal, said in 2023, via his attorney, that the recruiting violations were "were caused and overseen by" Pruitt.

"It is Mr. Ansley's position that his name has been improperly joined with these other Tennessee football program employees who were violators of the NCAA Bylaws and the COVD shutdown rules," wrote Ansley's attorney, Gregg E. Clifton, in 2023 (via Knox News).

Ansley further claimed that the violations at Tennessee were the fault of Pruitt and staff members "who did not respect or honor NCAA Bylaws and the mandatory expectations of compliance or the limitations created by the NCAA's ordered COVID shutdown."

The former Tennessee assistant coach has worked in the NFL since getting fired by Tennessee in early 2021.
