Former Titans Reunite With Familiar Coach in Free Agency

The Tennessee Titans parted ways with Mike Vrabel in 2024 after two straight seasons with a losing record despite his three straight playoff appearances in the years prior. Now, the Titans are one of the worst teams in the league and have the first overall in April's Draft.

Vrabel has since landed on his feet as the head coach of the New England Patriots, an AFC Rival, and the sting of firing him is beginning to burn even worse this week. He is already signing multiple of his former Titans players, as the Patriots agreed to terms  with OLB Harold Landry and TE Austin Hooper on Monday.

Landry was released by the team this offseason because the new regime felt that his production did not warrant the price tag he carried, but Vrabel felt differently as he signed him to a three-year, $43.5 million deal with $26 million guaranteed. Hooper has not played with Tennessee since 2018 but re-signed with the Patriots and his former coach on a one-year, $5 million deal.

The Titans are currently in year two of the Brian Callahan experiment, and things could turn ugly in a heartbeat if the team does not turn things around this season with new general manager Mike Borgonzi. As a first-time decision-maker taking over a 3-14 team, the odds are that the longtime Kansas City Chiefs executive sees this as a rebuild, not a window to contend.
