Will Levis surprised many with the announcement that he'd be shutting it down for the season to have surgery on a shoulder injury. But its the timing that has a former Titans player questioning it.
Tennessee revealed the news on Monday in a statement posted to the team's website:
After consulting with doctors and his representatives, Will Levis has decided to undergo shoulder surgery that will sideline him for the entire 2025 season. We support his decision to focus on his long-term health. He approached the offseason with professionalism and showed clear growth as a leader. We remain confident in his full recovery.
And for what its worth, the former second-round pick did sustain an AC joint injury in Week 4 of last year. However, ex-Pro Bowl left tackle Taylor Lewan thinks there might be more at play.
"I'm sure there's a side to the story that explains why Will waited until late July to get this surgery," Lewan said in a post to X. "Unfortunately, I'm too dumb to figure out what that is."
According to reporting from ESPN, Levis was experiencing discomfort in the shoulder during Tennessee's minicamp and was hoping that rest and rehab would allow the it to recover before ultimately opting to go under the knife.
Levis' injury clears the decks for No. 1 pick Cam Ward to take all of the first-team reps this preseason (which he was already getting the majority of throughout the summer) and it sounds like he'll punt on the 2025 in order to be ready for another potential opportunity elsewhere in the future.
The 26-year-old QB will have the surgery performed July 29 and was not with the team when they reported for training camp yesterday.
