Four bold predictions for AFC Championship game

The Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs will renew their fast-growing rivalry this weekend when they meet in the AFC Championship game for the second straight season, in what is sure to be another exciting clash of the best two squads in the conference.

On Divisional Round Weekend, the Bengals and Chiefs once again sent the message that they are the cream of the crop in the AFC.

In the opener to the NFL Playoff schedule Saturday, Kansas City soundly beat the Jacksonville Jaguars at home, 27-20.

However, the Bengals proved the following day why they are so dangerous in the postseason by going on the road to Buffalo and dominating the Bills 27-10 in a highly emotional matchup.

Beyond this being a battle of the two teams that have represented the conference in the last three Super Bowls, this game is about vindication for the Chiefs. They have lost two straight to the Bengals, including in last season’s AFC title game.

With Cincy seemingly owning real estate in the Chiefs’ heads, but Kansas City looking as dominant as ever, we offer up three bold predictions for this weekend’s AFC Championship game.

Joe Mixon surpasses 100 rushing yards for the Bengals

Earlier this season with Joe Mixon sidelined, backup running back Samaje Perine had the game of his life as he rushed for 106 yards against K.C.

In the championship game last winter, Mixon rushed for 88 on just 21 rushes. And despite a hobbled offensive line on Sunday, Mixon was able to top 100 yards in their win over the Bills.

With a positive previous history, the rushing attack being in a bit of a groove, and likely being allowed to beat them instead of quarterback Joe Burrow, look for them to exploit the opportunity.

Mixon will have a second straight 100-yard playoff game and make the Bengals’ offense balanced and effective this weekend.

Patrick Mahomes throws for over 300 and three touchdowns

This may not be the most shocking of predictions, but it is hard to imagine Patrick Mahomes not having an excellent game against the Bengals.

He was surprisingly held under 300 passing yards in the previous two games and even threw two interceptions in the AFC title clash. You can hold Mahomes down from being great but for so long.

The Pro Bowl QB is a serious MVP candidate this season because he has made a 300-plus yard and three TD game look like child’s play.

With the extra motivation of ending the losing streak and not suffering a second straight season-ending loss at home to the same team, expect Mahomes to play very much like an MVP.

Joe Burrow throws four touchdowns and two interceptions

Mahomes will be great this weekend, but Burrow will not be outdone. In both of their last two matchups, Burrow actually outplayed his counterpart.

That might be a stunning revelation, but that is just how good “Joe Cool” is in year three of his career.

Expect Burrow to have a special night as he throws four TDs to his talented receivers that includes stars in Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

However, good things always come to an end and while Burrow will be very good at times, he will be the one that has a multi-interception game this time around.

Chiefs exercise demons and punch ticket to Super Bowl

The Bengals are going to put up a serious fight and there will certainly be points during this game where the Chiefs look on the brink of a third straight loss to their rivals.

However, the Chiefs and head coach Andy Reid have created the closest thing the NFL has had to a dynasty team since the New England Patriots.

It will be a nail-biter, but with a Super Bowl birth and vengeance on the line, bet on Mahomes and the Chiefs.
