Miami’s Oct. 25 visit to MetLife Stadium matches two limited offenses and two teams trying to define their seasons. The Jets are early 4.5-point favorites, but the Dolphins’ improving rushing attack creates room for several bold predictions.
Ollie Gordon II will rush for at least 100 yards. Gordon has totaled 188 yards in two starts since De’Von Achane went on injured reserve. Miami’s 217-yard performance against Cincinnati should convince the coaching staff to keep the offense on the ground. New York has been much stronger against the pass than the run, which gives Gordon a favorable path to volume.
Malik Willis will produce two touchdowns and no more than one turnover. This is the prediction that would change the game. Willis threw two interceptions and lost a fumble against Cincinnati, but the bye gives Miami time to reduce his difficult reads. Designed runs and play-action can turn his mobility into production while limiting risky throws.
Miami will record at least three sacks. The Dolphins have only four sacks through five games, making this the boldest defensive call. Hafley’s staff has two weeks to design pressure packages against Geno Smith. A healthier edge rotation and more aggressive use of linebackers could finally create the disruption missing against Cincinnati.
The game will be decided by three points or fewer. The early total sits below 40 at several books. New York averages 18.6 points and Miami 14. The Jets have the stronger defense, while the Dolphins have the more productive recent running game. Neither team has shown enough passing explosiveness to create confidence in a runaway.
A reasonable projection is Jets 20, Dolphins 17, but that margin leaves the upset door open. If Miami wins the turnover battle, Gordon controls the tempo and special teams avoid another disastrous start, the Dolphins can reverse the score.
Bold predictions are not promises. They are matchup-based possibilities. The first three require Miami to emerge from the bye with a more disciplined offense and a more creative defense. If those changes appear, the fourth prediction should follow naturally.
