FOX Sports received brutal news this week regarding one of its NFL broadcasters.
According to Andy Slater of Fox Sports 640 South Florida, former NFL linebacker Jonathan Vilma was arrested Wednesday in Miami. He was allegedly driving with a suspended license.
"Former Miami Hurricanes star Jonathan Vilma was arrested on Wednesday afternoon in Miami for driving with a suspended license, sources tell me. He was initially stopped because his tag was expired," Slater wrote on X.
Vilma, 43, played in the NFL from 2004-2013. He spent four seasons with the New York Jets before being traded to the New Orleans Saints.
In 2009, Vilma helped the Saints make a Super Bowl run. The Pro Bowl linebacker finished his career with 879 tackles, 40 pass break-ups, 12 interceptions, 10.5 sacks and 10 fumble recovers.
After retiring from the NFL in 2014, Vilma decided to give broadcasting a shot. That turned out to be a smart move on his part.
Vilma has been calling games for FOX Sports alongside play-by-play announcer Kenny Albert since 2020. Prior to joining the network, he spent four years at ESPN as a college football broadcaster.
FOX Sports has not commented on Vilma's arrest. It's unclear if his status for the 2025 season is now in jeopardy.
As of now, Vilma is expected to be back in the booth with Albert for Week 1.
