The bond between a team and its quarterback is hard to separate...unless that quarterback plays poorly. That isn't the case, as there is plenty of love between the Philadelphia Eagles and their starting quarterback, Jalen Hurts.
Philadelphia selected Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, despite some disagreement with the move, as Carson Wentz was already the established starter. That selection by Eagles general manager Howie Roseman paid off as the Eagles have been to two Super Bowls and won one with Hurts leading the way.
How does the Eagles and Hurts' relationship compare to other marriages in the NFL like theirs?
FOX Sports NFL reporter Henry McKenna shares his rankings of the top 11 quarterback-team marriages in the NFL. Hurts and the Eagles ranked fifth, as it is the balanced relationship between Hurts and head coach Nick Sirianni that makes it work.
"Opposites attract. Hurts is the calmest, chillest, most understated superstar in the NFL. Nick Sirianni is a ball of energy and emotion. And they don’t always seem to like each other, but they love the same things and that’s how they keep their love alive. I think it’s because Howie Roseman lives in the space between the two guys, linking Sirianni and Hurts with personnel that suits both of them. Because you know … Philly also has Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, among others. It's one big family, fitting for the City of Brotherly Love."
Hurts has been successful since becoming the Eagles' starting quarterback, going 46-20 in his five years in Philadelphia. He's been selected for two Pro Bowls, one All-Pro selection, and won Super Bowl MVP in February.
Two Super Bowl appearances and a title win later, the Eagles have enjoyed having Hurts leading the way. His ability to stay humble and calm in the most pressure-filled opportunities is what makes him so great. In a city that is all about winning and fans sharing their blunt opinions, Hurts' thick skin has proven to be the best personality trait to have as the Eagles' quarterback.
Hurts can handle the criticism from the media all day long as long as it means they will win games. He's everything Philadelphia has wanted in a quarterback and more.
