The 2024 postseason run for the Philadelphia Eagles will go down as one of the most impressive in NFL history.
Philadelphia played four playoff games as the team outscored its opponents 145 to 77. The Eagles won three of those four games by double digits.
It was an offseason marked by changes, as several talented players, including Josh Sweat, Milton Williams, and Mekhi Becton, opted to play elsewhere for more money. The good news is that Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has been prepared for this moment thanks to the work he has done in the NFL Draft over the last five years.
This season will be different for Philadelphia as younger faces step up from backups to starters, but that won't deter the Eagles from still achieving their goal of winning another Super Bowl. A new roster won't change the media's mind about how good the Eagles will be.
FOX Sports NFL reporter Ben Arthur gave one-word descriptions for each of the 32 NFL teams that would sum up their offseason. Arthur picked "reloaded" for the Eagles being able to replace all the departed players from the team.
"The Eagles may have lost key players on their defensive line, like Josh Sweat and Milton Williams, but they’ve added Josh Uche and Azeez Ojulari on low-risk, high-reward contracts as replacements. Former first-round pick Kenyon Green also enters the picture for guard depth after Mekhi Becton’s departure in free agency. With the core of last year’s Super Bowl-winning team returning and the expected growth of young players, Philadelphia should be a threat to repeat."
Philadelphia ended up signing 12 free agents to one-year deals that included Uche and Ojulari. Other key contributors might include running back A.J. Dillon, who could be Saquon Barkley's backup, and offensive lineman Matt Pryor, who is competing with Tyler Steen for the starting right guard position.
The draft offered the Eagles plenty of new and upcoming talent to bolster their roster. Their first two selections, Jihaad Campbell and Andrew Mukuba, are expected to be role players in Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio's defense in year one before potentially being starters in 2026. Defensive tackle Ty Robinson is another player to watch as he was a Day 3 pick who could be in the rotation this season.
Fangio's defensive unit saw the most change, but also has the most upside with their young talent. Nolan Smith Jr., Jalen Carter, and Jordan Davis will play significant roles up front to pressure the quarterback. Zack Baun is back at linebacker as he and Nakobe Dean could be disruptors in the middle. Finishing in the secondary, Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and Reed Blankenship will anchor the future of the position group for hopefully years to come.
There will be questions surrounding whether the young talent on the roster is ready to step up, but it is very clear this roster is set up for success for a long time.
