FOX's Greg Olsen wants to make being replaced by Tom Brady 'hard as hell'

Announcer Kevin Burkhardt and former player Greg Olsen will serve as FOX’s No. 1 broadcast crew for NFL games during the 2022 season, but Olsen already knows he's merely keeping the seat warm until current Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady retires and enters the FOX booth as the network's new lead analyst. 

While speaking about the topic last month, Olsen admitted that eventually losing his gig to the seven-time Super Bowl champion signal-caller "sucks," but he also said he "can at least live with the only person in the world who beat me out was Tom Brady." Per Brandon Contes of Awful Announcing, Olsen made it clear during the latest edition of "The Adam Schefter Podcast" that he'll be looking to prove his worth to FOX in a big way beginning this fall. 

"If Brady does retire and he steps into it, I want it to be like, 'I know Brady’s coming, but damn, I don’t want to replace this guy.' That’s my mindset, and I can’t control anything else," Olsen explained. "I’m gonna try to give people a fun broadcast, a unique broadcast…If I get replaced by Tom Brady, I get it. but along the way, I’m gonna try to make it as hard as hell on everybody involved."

Olsen added he has "no hard feelings or animosity towards Tom" but also jokingly said he thinks the 44-year-old shouldn't call time on his playing career before he earns at least a few more championship rings.

"I’m gonna go out and do the best job I can do and I hope Tom plays another five years," Olsen remarked while chuckling. "I don’t think Tom’s career is over until he gets 10 Super Bowls. I think anything less than that would be selling himself short. So if I was him, I’d go for 10, and I’ll hold the seat warm until he gets there." 

FOX has the television broadcast rights for Super Bowl LVII in February, and it's possible Brady and Olsen could work together as teammates that fateful Sunday if the Buccaneers aren't playing for the title.
