Fred Johnson says quiet part out loud about Eagles' attitude after Super Bowl

There were a lot of happy faces inside and outside the Philadelphia Eagles' organization to see offensive tackle Fred Johnson back in the building this week.

On Sunday, the Eagles pulled off three trades, with one of them involving a call to the Jacksonville Jaguars to acquire their tackle back. Philly traded a Day three draft pick in exchange for Johnson.

Johnson spent the last two seasons in Philadelphia as a backup swing tackle, being able to play on the left and right sides. Jordan Mailata's injury the previous year threw Johnson in at left tackle, and he performed well. Johnson started six games for the Eagles last year, helping them capture a second Super Bowl title.

Not even six months gone from Philly, Johnson returned to the team and faced questions about being back with the Eagles. One question asked was about the team's attitude entering the new season, and for Johnson, nothing has changed. It's all about winning.

“Even though we won a Super Bowl last year, you don’t see that,” Johnson said via SI's Ed Kracz. “You see guys still chasing something like they haven’t achieved it already. You look at Lane Johnson, you look at Jordan Mailata, you look at Landon (Dickerson), you look at Cam (Jurgens), highly paid, highly compensated.

Those guys attack it like they don’t have a dollar to their name. That’s the kind of thing that molded me to be still grinding for everything I do. You see those guys every day come to work ready to go, still attack, still chasing the ball, still getting after it.”

Johnson brings back some of his own attitude to Eagles' offensive line

It was not a great preseason and training camp for the Eagles' offensive line. The biggest storyline is left guard Landon Dickerson's injury, but he appears to be in line to start Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Right guard Tyler Steen was the only starter who played during the preseason, so there aren't any lingering concerns with them. It's the backups that did not meet the standard, with a lot of inconsistency.

Veterans like Kendall Lamm and Trevor Keegan struggled, which resulted in them being cut from the team. The good news, though, is that rookies like Drew Kendall and Cameron Williams showed enough progress to build around that.

Johnson understands what a winning team looks like. He was in the trenches with these guys for almost half the season as a starter. Johnson knows what Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland wants from his linemen and will be able to provide that for Philly.

The Eagles did a good job finding a way to bring Johnson back and getting this train back on track with the offensive line.
