Fred Warner can’t forget the Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in February. The San Francisco 49ers linebacker claimed to have watched the game several times on repeat while contemplating what they should have done differently.
Warner spoke with NFL Network’s Judy Battista and Steve Wyche on Wednesday’s The Insiders. He revealed being unable to erase the memory of losing, twice in four years, to the same opponents.
Yeah, not fully over it [Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs] for sure. That one is going to sting for a long time. I'm not even over the first one. [So], I'm sure this last one was three months ago? I'm still not over it. Fred Warner said through FaceTime
He added that it’s not easy to move on from such a defeat. His team faced several challenges with injuries to key players and still made it to the important game. So, the loss stays with everyone as a scar.
However, Warner believes these experiences strengthen the team’s mentality, which helps them down the line. What matters the most is the knowledge gained from the defeat.
I've watched it several times and seen different plays we could have made to win that game. You just got to be better next time... And I think the goal going into this year is obviously to focus on finishing. Fred Warner said

Fred Warner praised defensive coordinator Nick Sorensen
The 49ers fired Steve Wilks after just one year at the helm and appointed Nick Sorensen for the defensive play-caller role. Warner disclosed that Sorensen’s presence in the room had been a great confidence booster.
Nick is great, man. I love the hire. Nick has been a part of this organization for a couple of years [now]. He's been heavily involved with the linebackers, [and he's played the game for a long time]. He's just been a true players' coach. Fred Warner said
The 27-year-old also touched upon the much-talked-about overtime coin toss. He hinted that the players did talk about the decision to receive first. However, he further added that the 49ers had several chances to kill the game but did not.

There are little things within that game, everyone wants to point out the whole coin toss thing and we can go all day about that, but there were so many moments in that game to seal the deal. Fred Warner said
Warner had an All-Pro caliber season in 2023. According to Pro Football Reference, he recorded 132 tackles, 2.5 sacks, a career-high 4 interceptions and defended 11 passes.
