The Free agency frenzy has begun and Green Bay, a team who desperately needed to make some moves, has already been active. Here’s the bigger moves general manager Brian Gutekunst has done so far.
Many were wondering which direction Brian Gutekunst would take regarding Rashan Gary’s future. Would the Packers adjust his contract? Would the Packers straight up release him or would he be traded?
Well, after Rashan Gary announced on Instagram of his release, it wasn’t long after that it was declared a mistake and that his account had been hacked. Despite the hack, an old friend of Brian Gutekunst still picked up the phone to check on the pass rushers availability.
That’s right, the Cowboys traded for Rashan Gary. Jerry Jones sent the Packers a 4th round pick in exchange for Gary. That helped the Packers significantly with salary cap issues. It is amazing the Packers even got anything back.
Thank you, Jerry.
As expected, backup quarterback Malik Willis has found a new home. Willis now finds himself as the go-to guy in Miami with Jeff Hafley as his head coach. The Packers will receive a comp pick for the move.
There was no question that the Packers were going to need to address their OL, especially at the center position. With several players like Tyler Linderbaum getting massive contracts, the Packers stuck to what they know.
Sean Rhyan did relatively well at center when his number was called. The former 3rd round pick has signed a new contract with the Packers and will be the starting center moving forward.
The Nate Hobbs experiment just did not work. The Packers signed the cornerback in free agency last offseason to a whopping four-year deal worth $48 million.
Hobbs never found his footing, being sidelined multiple times with a knee injury and even when he was on the field, it wasn’t pretty.
Props to Gutekunst for realizing how horrific the contract and the performances were from the former Raider. Hobbs recently signed with the 49ers.
The Packers have an actual kick/punt returner on the roster now. After many painful attempts at watching Romeo Doubs, Matthew Golden, etc. at returner, Green Bay has finally addressed the position.
Skyy Moore will definitely be missed on special teams as he was a very solid return guy for the #49ers pic.twitter.com/ZKNVNAtFM5

One of the weakest rooms on the Packers is the corner room. Brian Gutekunst added a lengthy guy to the mix. A much-needed addition at a good price.
Some much needed depth at pass rush is being addressed with this signing. Coming from the Vikings, hopefully Hargrave can make some noise alongside Devonte Wyatt and Micah Parsons.
With Quay Walker on his way out, the Packers were in desperate need of an additional linebacker. Zaire did not have an overly great season last year, but hopefully with a new system on a new team will allow him to bounce back.
Quay Walker – Raiders, Kingsley Engabare – Jets, Rasheed Walker – Panthers, Romeo Doubs – Patriots, Elgton Jenkins – Browns.
It seems the Packers have avoided any internal NFC North signings by their free agents, which is always a good thing.
The moves have been good but there is still a lot of work to be done in the draft.
